Houthi Commander Accuses UAE of Offering Money for Attack on Saudi NEOM Project

A Houthi military commander has accused the United Arab Emirates of offering the group large sums of money to attack Saudi Arabia’s NEOM project.

The allegation was reported Saturday by the Arabic-language account “UAE Under the Microscope.”

“The UAE asked us to bomb the NEOM project in Saudi Arabia in exchange for huge sums of money and recognition of their government,” the account quoted the Houthi commander as saying.

The statement appeared to refer to international recognition of the Houthi-led authorities in Sana’a.

The social-media post, however, did not identify the commander, provide supporting evidence or include a response from the UAE. A statement by a Houthi official establishes the source of the allegation but does not independently prove that the alleged offer was made.

If substantiated, the accusation would point to a serious dispute between the UAE and Saudi Arabia. NEOM is a major Saudi development project and a central part of the kingdom’s economic plans.

The UAE and Saudi Arabia have not publicly responded to the allegation.
